THE TEAM NEWS

WEST INDIES

  • West Indies were thwarted in their attempts to level the series on Saturday as the match was abandoned after they restricted Ireland to 147/9 from their 19 overs as the rain came down at 16/1 from just 2.1 overs.
  • Skipper Kieron Pollard was the star of the show with the ball as he took 4/25 from his four overs, while Sheldon Cottrell took 2/10 from his four as they held Ireland to a below-par score that they looked certain to chase down before the weather intervened.
  • The likelihood is that they will name the same eleven players for this third and final match in St Kitts as they look to tie the series although Khary Pierre could possibly be rotated out of the side for another pace bowler such as Kesrick Williams.

IRELAND

  • Ireland were saved by the rain in the second T20 international against the Windies as they could only muster 147/9 when batting first so they will look to improve on that and produce a similar performance to what they did in the first match.
  • There were some positives with Gareth Delany smashing an excellent 44 from just 22 balls, but the other contributions were not quite at a rate that enabled them to post a sufficiently high total which they will look to improve here.
  • Despite being saved by the rain, the likelihood is that they will keep faith with this eleven players as they look to pick up another win to seal what would be one of their best results in their relatively short history.

THE PREDICTION

Ireland were outstanding in the first T20 match which saw them beat the Windies but they were somewhat fortunate to avoid defeat on Saturday as the rain saved them. The West Indies produced a much better bowling performance on Saturday and they will look to replicate that again here assuming the weather holds up. If they do manage to avoid the rain, the Windies will surely have too much with bat and ball for the tourists as they will even the series up.
