THE LOWDOWN
WEST INDIES
It cannot be understated how much of a difference the return of West Indies’ top T20 players has made to them as a side and this is proven by the fact that they head into this third T20i with a 2-0 series lead and needing one more victory to seal the deal. No player has made more of an impact than Nicholas Pooran, who must be seen as one of the most dangerous T20 batters in world cricket right now. The wicket-keeper struck 67 from 40 balls and laid the foundations for a successful run chase of 153. At one stage, it looked like they would still fall short but a crucial ninth wicket partnership of 26 unbroken between Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph took the Windies home.
INDIA
India are continuing to struggle in this series without their top guns and aside from the immensely talented Tilak Varma, no one is covering themselves in glory. Varma batted really well for his 51, whilst the likes of Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill all failed. The under-pressure Ishan Kishan added 27 runs up top but that won’t stop questions being asked about his spot. With the ball, Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets for the loss of just 19 runs, but inexplicably did not bowl a fourth over, clearly a big error by captain Hardik Pandya when considering that no other Indian bowler boasted a lower economy rate. It’s now win-or-bust for them here.
THE PREDICTION
Surely this is the match where India finally pull things back and give themselves a chance still of taking the series. They’ve been second best across the past couple of games, but each have been close finishes and could have gone either way. No doubt plenty of soul-searching has been conducted inside the dressing room and you’d expect them to put in their strongest showing of the series so far. West Indies will need to cope with the pressure of needing one more win and it wouldn’t be the Windies if they didn’t make it hard for themselves. Back India to record their first victory and reduce the series deficit to 2-1.
TIP: INDIA TO WIN
