THE LOWDOWN

ENGLAND

England took New Zealand to the cleaners on Friday night, battering them at Emirates Old Trafford by 95 runs. Batting first, the hosts racked up 198/4 as opener Jonny Bairstow batted through the innings, scoring 86 not out. Harry Brook served up yet another reminder as to his talents with a destructive 67, whilst Surrey star Gus Atkinson recorded the best T20i bowling figures by an England player on debut, taking 4/20 off his 2.5 overs bowled.

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand were dominated from start to finish last time out, as they have been across the series. The bowlers had little in the way of luck, but ultimately were torn apart by the sheer brutality of Bairstow and Brook, two world class batters on top of their respective games. A target of 199 always felt like it would be way beyond the Black Caps’ batting line-up and so it proved, Tim Seifert top scoring with 39 as they were bowled out for just 103 with only three players reaching double-figures.

THE PREDICTION

New Zealand simply cannot match England when it comes to depth of batting and boundary hitting, which it makes it so difficult for them to compete with the hosts on these excellent batting surfaces. This next match at Edgbaston is expected to go the same way, regardless of whether England are setting or chasing a target and it would be a surprise if they were not to get the better of New Zealand once again.

BETTING TIP: ENGLAND TO WIN
