THE LOWDOWN

WEST INDIES

  • West Indies saw their hopes of salvaging this series ended in embarrassing fashion as they were bowled out for just 108 in the second ODI, ultimately losing by nine wickets as their bowlers failed to show the same potency as their opponents.
  • Most worrying for the Windies over the course of the series has been the total misfiring of their batters with not a single player recording an individual score of 34 or more across the two matches played so far.

BANGLADESH

  • The Bangladesh bowling attack continues to impress across this ODI series and after skittling out their opponents, professionally chased down their modest target for the loss of just one wicket, securing a series victory with one game to spare.
  • Conditions have been utilised excellently by the Tigers and it’s a testament to their bowlers that the batting unit has not really been tested over the course of the two games played so far due to them chasing such small totals.

THE PREDICTION

It has been a case of one step forward, two steps back for the West Indies in white ball cricket over the course of their matches against Bangladesh. Whilst the T20i series was a successful one, Nicholas Pooran’s side have been comprehensively outplayed in the two ODI fixtures. When taking into account that this third and final match of the series is being played once again at Guyana National Stadium, the expectation is that this may once again prove a very difficult assignment for the Windies batters against an in-form visiting bowling attack. Therefore, backing Bangladesh to secure a 0-3 sweep is worth serious consideration.
