The competition was founded by the Emirates Cricket Board and takes place entirely inside the UAE in locations such as Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and of course, Dubai. Six franchise teams will compete in the competition, a number of which were bought by IPL franchise owners.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the competition.

When is the DP World ILT20 taking place?

Which players are taking part and who will they play for?

Up to nine overseas players can be fielded in a starting XI, with it being mandatory that the remaining two places be filled by a local player and a player representing an associate nation such as Netherlands or Scotland for example. When taking into account these rules, it is no surprise that a plethora of overseas stars will descend upon the UAE for this tournament.

A number of West Indian superstars such as Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard are all set to feature, whilst world class players from New Zealand (Trent Boult), Sri Lanka (Wanindu Hasaranga) and Australia (Chris Lynn) are all in line to show off their skills. There’s also plenty to look forward to for England fans with Test star Joe Root making a rare foray into an overseas T20 league.
