THE TEAM NEWS

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

  • Chennai Super Kings have been arguably the form team in recent times in the IPL as after losing their opening match, they have since reeled off four wins in a row with the latest coming in style as they emphatically inflicted a first defeat on Royal Challengers Bangalore.
  • That win over RCB will only serve to give them another major boost in confidence and they will relish this match against the Sunrisers as they likely welcome back England all-rounder Moeen Ali after a small injury problem.
  • That could see Dwayne Bravo or Imran Tahir make way for him but otherwise it is hard to see them altering what is a team in form, with great momentum and excellent balance in the starting eleven.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad sit rock bottom of the IPL ladder as the only team with just one win under their belts but there has been an improvement in performances having beaten Punjab Kings and then taking Delhi Capitals all the way to a Super Over before ultimately losing last time out.
  • Their overseas stars continue to produce the goods with Kane Williamson in excellent form last time out but they are really lacking contributions for their below-par local contingent which is easily the weakest in the tournament.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar could possibly return after he missed the Capitals game due to injury while Manish Pandey was dropped for Virat Singh last time out but after a 14-ball innings of just four runs, Singh could rotate back out for Pandey here.

THE PREDICTION

Everything is in favour of the Chennai Super Kings coming into this game as they have quality and form on their side over the Sunrisers Hyderabad. David Warner’s men are showing some signs of fight however and there is a chance that they make this more competitive than many people expect but they will need some heroics from their four overseas stars if they are to win. Their domestic players simply are not good enough and unless the likes of Vijay Shankar, Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar can improve drastically, it is hard to see them winning games consistently. CSK look strong in every department and they clearly fancy their chances of making a real run at the trophy this year. They are in excellent form and it is hard to oppose them in this form, especially against a team struggling like the Sunrisers. Warner and company can keep this closer than many will expect so do not rule out a shock but pre-match preference has to go to CSK.
