THE TEAM NEWS

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off an unexpected four-run victory last time out against an in-form Royal Challengers Bangalore, a testament to their commitment despite being bottom of the table and unable to make the IPL playoffs.
  • England limited overs star Jason Roy top scored for SRH with 44, whilst Abhishek Sharma could only score 10 runs having been pushed up the order to open and he will either get another chance at the top of the order here, or wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha will move back to the opening position alongside Roy.

MUMBAI INDIANS

  • Mumbai Indians will know that to stand any hope of playoff qualification, they must win this game and may well need to win by a significant margin depending on Kolkata Knight Riders’ result against Rajasthan Royals the day before
  • South African wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock was left out of the side in Mumbai’s most recent win over Rajasthan with Jimmy Neesham coming in and taking two wickets, whilst De Kock’s replacement opener Ishan Kishan struck a half-century, leaving Mumbai with a tough decision to make on whether to bring De Kock back into the side and if so, whether to field him as an opener or keep Kishan in that spot.

THE PREDICTION

This match is all about whether Mumbai Indians can handle the pressure. They have struggled since the resumption of the IPL, mainly due to the conditions in the UAE, but their victory over Rajasthan Royals was an example as to how strong a unit they can be when on song. They contain far more firepower than Sunrisers Hyderabad from a batting perspective and provided they maintain their discipline rather than needlessly throwing their wickets away, then Mumbai Indians should be able to outscore a SRH side set to come up against a bowling attack spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Nathan Coulter-Nile who took four wickets against Rajasthan. Therefore, expect Mumbai Indians to secure a straightforward two points here, whether it will enough to quality for playoffs however, is unknown for now.
