CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

• Chennai Super Kings head into their final league match in second place after their defeat against Delhi Capitals saw Rishabh Pant’s side establish themselves at the top of the table.
• England all-rounder Sam Curran missed that game due to an injury which has since been diagnosed as a lower-back problem which will not only rule him out of the IPL playoffs, but also the T20 World Cup.

PUNJAB KINGS

• Following Punjab Kings’ narrow six-run loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore, KL Rahul’s side know that only victory here will give themselves a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
• West Indian Fabian Allen did not feature against RCB through injury and is a doubt for this one, although Australian Moises Henriques played well in that match and is likely to retain his place in the side here.

THE PREDICTION

Chennai Super Kings will not want to enter the playoffs on the back of three successive defeats and Punjab Kings will have to be at their best if they are to overcome MS Dhoni’s side. The defining factor in this match could well be the strength of both sides’ respective middle orders. Whilst Punjab Kings are very much reliant on the top order to provide the vast majority of their runs, the Chennai Super Kings middle order are more likely to make a significant contribution should their top order fall cheaply. With that in mind, backing Chennai Super Kings to edge this one and bring to an end their two-game losing streak looks to be the smart play.
