THE LOWDOWN

SOUTH AFRICA

Coach: Rob Walter

Captain: Temba Bavuma

  • South Africa bounced back from their shock defeat at the hands of Netherlands in some style, destroying England by piling up 399 runs before bowling Jos Buttler’s side out for 170 to seal a 229-run win.
  • Captain Temba Bavuma missed the game through illness, but is likely to make a recovery in time to play here, which would see Reeza Hendricks drop back out of the side.

BANGLADESH

Coach: Chandika Harthurusingha

Captain: Shakib Al Hasan

  • Bangladesh’s seven-wicket loss to India leaves them still with just one win from four matches and whilst they are still in the race for semi-final qualification, two points here would be priceless.
  • Like South Africa, questions linger over skipper Shakib Al Hasan’s fitness with his experience and quality with both bat and ball desperately needed here against such a formidable opponent, not to mention his leadership skills.

THE PREDICTION

Last time out on this ground, South Africa’s batters made mincemeat of England’s bowlers and they’ll fancy themselves to do the same again here, this time to the bowling unit of the Tigers. The depth of hitting at the Proteas’ disposal is the envy of most other nations and it’s hard to see them being contained here by Bangladesh, whether Shakib plays or not. The best of South Africa’s victories over the course of this World Cup so far have been when they have used their boundary hitting prowess to blow opponents away and the same is expected against Bangladesh.

BETTING TIP: SOUTH AFRICA TO WIN
