THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

Coach: Rahul Dravid

Captain: Rohit Sharma

  • India’s 100-run mauling of England was a masterclass in bowling when defending an under-par total on a bowler-friendly surface, the host nation keeping the reigning champions tied down with consistently challenging deliveries that ultimately reaped their rewards.
  • Mohammed Shami has taken nine wickets across two games since coming into the team in place of the injured Hardik Pandya and will no doubt retain his place, as will Suryakumar Yadav ahead of Shardul Thakur.

SRI LANKA

Coach: Chris Silverwood

Captain: Dasun Shanaka

  • Sri Lanka looked to have built momentum following their wins over Netherlands and England, but defeat by seven wickets to Afghanistan has left them back at square one, with knockout qualification now looking more remote than ever.
  • Kusal Mendis will captain the side again in the absence of the injured Dasun Shanaka and Matheesha Pathirana also misses out, but Sadeera Samarawickrama was able to play against Afghanistan despite being struck on the hand vs England and should be fine to feature again here.

THE PREDICTION

After putting themselves back into semi-final contention, that loss to Afghanistan was a hammer-blow for Sri Lanka and it’s hard to see them coming back from it. On what is likely to be a good batting surface in Mumbai, expect India’s daunting top order to cash in against a weak bowling attack. It goes without saying that India have all bases covered with the ball and their home support adds an extra layer of intimidation. Back them to make it seven straight group stage victories.

BETTING TIP: INDIA TO WIN
