THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

Coach: Rahul Dravid

Captain: Rohit Sharma

  • India sailed through to the semi-finals after the topping the group stage with a perfect record of nine wins from nine games on home soil and are the clear favourites from here to lift the trophy.
  • Vice-captain Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the remainder of this World Cup with ligament damage and Prasidh Krishna replaces him in the squad, although he is extremely unlikely to see any playing time.

NEW ZEALAND

Coach: Gary Stead

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • New Zealand’s place in the semi-finals was in jeopardy after a losing run across the back end of the group stage, but a thumping win over Sri Lanka in their final match sealed their progression.
  • Lockie Ferguson and Kane Williamson both coming through that game against Sri Lanka without issue was a huge boost for a team plagued with injury problems throughout the tournament, most recently losing bowler Matt Henry with a torn hamstring.

THE PREDICTION

These two nations clashed at this exact same stage back in 2019 and on that occasion, New Zealand stunned India at Emirates Old Trafford to book their place in the final. This time round, India are even more favoured to triumph with home advantage in their favour and on the back of a magnificent group stage campaign which saw them brush aside all and sundry. It’s hard to see a team with the strongest, best-performing bowling attack in the competition coming unstuck here, not to mention a batting line-up full of vast experience and class, so back India to get the job done against the Black Caps and progress through to the final.

BETTING TIP: INDIA TO WIN
