THE LOWDOWN

AUSTRALIA

Coach: Andrew McDonald

Captain: Pat Cummins

  • Australia are now under significant pressure having lost two games from two against India and South Africa respectively, which leaves them down in ninth-place when factoring in their awful net-run-rate.
  • The fielding in particular, was a huge cause for concern last time out with multiple dropped catches, whilst Josh Inglis was brought in for the under-performing Alex Carey vs South Africa but had little impact, dismissed for just 5.

SRI LANKA

Coach: Chris Silverwood

Captain: Dasun Shanaka

  • Sri Lanka would have thought they stood an excellent chance of beating Pakistan last time out after posting 344/9, but an ICC Cricket World Cup record run chase condemned Dasun Shanaka’s side to a damaging second defeat of the tournament so far.
  • It’s clear where the issues lie for Sri Lanka, having conceded firstly a World Cup record score of 428 runs and now a World Cup record run chase, shipping 773 runs across their opening two matches in total.

THE PREDICTION

If ever there was a match for Australia’s failing batting line-up to find some form, this is certainly the one vs a Sri Lankan bowling unit who simply cannot find a solution to stem the flow of runs being scored against them at present. There is no excuse for an Australian top order of such experience and class, not to mention a middle order of such brute force not to go big in Lucknow and ultimately get the better of their opponents. Another defeat here would be catastrophic and is quite frankly, unthinkable.

BETTING TIP: AUSTRALIA TO WIN
