THE TEAM NEWS

GUYANA AMAZON WARRIORS

  • Despite winning their opening game, Guyana Amazon Warriors had plenty of improvement in them and that is exactly what they produced as they secured a comfortable victory over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
  • After restricting the Patriots to 153/8 with all of the bowlers taking at least a wicket, the Amazon Warriors lost just two wickets in their run chase as Shimron Heymer was the star with an unbeaten knock of 70.
  • That only served to further highlight how good the Amazon Warriors could be with Nicholas Pooran not even making it to the crease due to the performance of those above him and that is likely to be the cornerstone of their success in this year’s tournament.

BARBADOS TRIDENTS

  • Barbados Tridents will make their first appearance in this year’s CPL with them eager to put their poor showing last time out behind them as they managed just two wins from their 10 games which saw them finish in last place.
  • Jason Holder will skipper the side and he is joined by some explosive batting power with England’s Alex Hales joining the likes of Shai Hope whilst JP Duminy will look to continue where he left off in the Global T20 Canada where he performed well for Winnipeg Hawks.
  • The Tridents had been hoping to include Pakistan pair Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz but they have international commitments and will miss the entirety of the competition which is a huge blow for Barbados.

THE PREDICTION

Barbados Tridents will make their bow in the 2019 CPL with a tough test against Guyana Amazon Warriors. Guyana have won both of their games so far and looked ominous with the bat which could spell trouble for Barbados. They have a strong batting line-up of their own but their bowling unit looks light on genuine talent which could open the door for the Amazon Warriors to capitalise and make it three wins from three.
