THE LOWDOWN

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Reigning champions Perth Scorchers, now the most successful side in men’s BBL history get their new campaign underway in a rematch of last season’s final against Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium.
  • Overseas fast bowler Tymal Mills has pulled out of the tournament due to a family emergency after being signed up once again by the Scorchers and they will also be without captain Mitchell Marsh and opener Phil Salt both through injuries, with South African Faf du Plessis drafted in as a replacement.

SYDNEY SIXERS

  • Sydney Sixers got off to a losing start in this season’s BBL out in Adelaide, as the Strikers defeated them by 51 runs this past Wednesday.
  • Star bowler Sean Abbott has picked up where he left off last year, taking three wickets but was offered precious little support, leading to the Sixers conceding a total too big for them to chase down.

THE PREDICTION

It doesn’t get any easier here for Sydney Sixers although they are coming across a weakened Scorchers side compared to last year with the absence of Mitch Marsh in particular a big blow. However, the depth of the Perth team is significant and on what is usually a good batting pitch at Optus Stadium, they will be confident of dishing out more punishment to the Sixers’ bowlers off the back of their rough night at the hands of Adelaide. Whilst this is expected to prove a far closer encounter than Sydney Sixers’ loss at the Adelaide Oval, Perth Scorchers should do enough to pick up the points.
