BRISBANE HEAT

• It has not been the start to the BBL that Brisbane Heat wanted so far, with Chris Lynn’s side having lost their opening two games against Sydney Thunder and Perth Scorchers respectively.
• Ill-discipline within the Heat’s middle order in particular has cost them, having given wickets away after putting themselves in promising initial positions, so it’s vital that they put more of a price on their wickets in this one.

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

• Melbourne Renegades failed to back up their impressive two-run victory over Adelaide Strikers in their first match of this season’s competition, falling to the same opponent two days later by a significant margin of 49 runs.
• Australian limited overs captain Aaron Finch has not featured in their opening two games due to injury and the Renegades will be desperately hoping that he recovers in time for this one, as his presence at the top of the order would significantly bolster their batting ranks.

THE PREDICTION

There is plenty to admire about this Melbourne Renegades unit, with plenty of young talent such as Jake Fraser-McGurk complementing the more experienced faces such as James Pattinson and Kane Richardson. Their bowling unit looks a strong one with plenty of variation and balance, which should see them restrict the under-performing Brisbane Heat to an overall batting total which is manageable, although an early dismissal of Brisbane’s Chris Lynn will be crucial in order to achieve that. It’s important to note that the Melbourne Renegades batters won’t be facing a bowler the quality of Rashid Khan as they did against the Strikers and provided that they bat sensibly here, combining both power with control when required, then Melbourne Renegades have all the tools to extend the Heat’s losing run and pick up their second win of the tournament.
