THE LOWDOWN

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

  • Melbourne Renegades failed to build on their win over Melbourne Stars as they succumbed to defeat against Brisbane Heat in their penultimate contest of BBL|10 and they face a tough test to wrap things up as they take on Hobart Hurricanes.
  • The Renegades struggled to contain the Heat’s top order as Chris Lynn and Marnus Labuschagne did the damage, helping their side to 173/5 which looked to be a tough target to chase.
  • Sam Harper came in at three and notched 57 but his efforts proved in vain as nobody was able to go with him and the Renegades lost frequent wickets as they were bowled out for 147.

HOBART HURRICANES

  • Hobart Hurricanes secured a thrilling win over reigning champions Sydney Sixers to move into the top five on the BBL|10 ladder and they have given themselves a brilliant chance of qualifying for the finals on the back of that.
  • The Hurricanes took the game to their opponents from the off and a sensational opening partnership of 145 between Matthew Wade (86) and D’Arcy Short (72) proved to be telling, despite a late collapse which saw Hobart finish on 188/8.
  • The Sixers produced a superb chase but fell just short with the efforts of Scott Boland, Nathan Ellis and Sandeep Lamichhane in particular doing enough to help their side to a vital victory of just seven runs.

THE PREDICTION

Hobart Hurricanes know that a win in this final game of the round robin will secure their spot in the finals of BBL|10. They take on bottom side Melbourne Renegades and will be full of confidence after toppling reigning champions Sydney Sixers in their last clash. Their top four has been bolstered by the return of skipper Matthew Wade and they have the talent to go big, as they have shown of late with two of their last three batting efforts seeing them surpass 180 runs. The Renegades have endured a miserable campaign having won just three of their matches and while they will be under no pressure to produce a performance here, a focused Hobart outfit can punish them – especially with the bat – to book their spot in the finals.
