THE LOWDOWN
BRISBANE HEAT
- Brisbane Heat managed to sneak into the finals of BBL|10 thanks to a dramatic victory over Perth Scorchers in their final clash and they will take plenty of confidence from that, especially as they get to play this Eliminator contest on home soil at the Gabba.
- The Heat knew they needed to score big against the dangerous batting line-up of the Scorchers and they did just that as they set their opponents a target of 182, largely thanks to the efforts of Chris Lynn (51) and Marnus Labuschagne (46).
- Labuschagne then played his part with the ball too, ending with figures of 3-35 the Heat managed to hold on to win by six runs and the Australian star is likely to be the key man along with skipper Lynn if the Heat are to advance.
ADELAIDE STRIKERS
- Adelaide Strikers were made to pay for a poor batting display as they succumbed to a heavy defeat in their final match of the round robin with Sydney Thunder but with Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars both losing their final matches, the Strikes finished in fifth by the slimmest of margins.
- They edged out the Hurricanes by virtue of a superior net run rate but they will have to be much better with both bat and ball in this clash after they managed just 115/4 from their reduced 14 overs, despite Jake Weatherald’s 80* from 47 balls.
- Usman Khawaja fell with the first ball of the Thunder’s response but that was the only damage the Strikers could manage as they fell to a nine-wicket loss with 11 balls to spare and they will need the likes of Wes Agar and Peter Siddle to improve on their efforts in that game.
THE PREDICTION
Adelaide Strikers won both of their matches against Brisbane Heat during the round robin stage of BBL|10 but that will count for very little unless they add a third win in this Eliminator clash. These two teams both have plenty to do if they are to mount a challenge for the title but there is little to split them ahead of this contest. They each won seven of their matches to advance in the final two spots on the ladder so home advantage could prove to be crucial here. The Heat won three of their five games at the Gabba and their line-up is more complete than it was in those matches with Marnus Labuschagne impressing since returning from International duty. His versatility has proven invaluable for his side and the Aussie has complemented some superb talent in the batting order. The Strikers also boast the potential to go big with Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald opening but with middle-order runs difficult to come by, the Heat’s superior batting quality should ensure they come out on top.
