WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?

In 2018, Australia’s Jacob Birtwistle was the quickest runner in the Men’s Triathlon in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Birtwistle went on to collect a silver medal but all three medallists from that games, Henri Schoeman (gold) and Marc Austin (bronze) are either not involved or not expected to be in contention.

In fact, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Great Britain’s Alex Yee showed his impressive speed on the ground as he took home the silver medal, ahead of New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde. It is believed that those two that are expected to be the main challengers for the Commonwealth gold on Friday.

TSZ’S PREDICTION

Given that Yee’s most impressive Triathlon attribute is his running and the fact that the 24 year-old Englishman will be backed by a home crowd in the final stages of the event, it makes it even likelier that he will take gold. Wilde, also 24, is expected to be his closest competitor and those intangible factors of the crowd could be the decisive element.

TSZ Tip: ALEX YEE (ENGLAND) TO WIN
