THE LOWDOWN

Yordenis Ugas (26-4) has fought some notable rivals in his career to date but this is arguably the biggest name he will come up against. The Cuban overcame Abel Ramos last time out via split decision and that allowed him to claim the vacant WBA world welterweight title. He will now step in at short notice for the injured Errol Spence Jr. and will be desperate to prove himself on this stage despite his lack of preparation.

Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2) needs no introduction with the legendary Philippine returning to the ring for the first time since a 2019 win against Keith Thurman. That win handed his opponent a first loss of his 30-bout career and was an eye-catching success despite being by split decision. That allowed Pacquiao to collect the WBA super world welterweight title and that will be the prize on the line in this bout.

THE PREDICTION

Manny Pacquiao has been no stranger to using his power to finish opponents off during his glittering career but that ability has waned over the years and with two years out of the ring, he may have to outmanoeuvre Yordenis Ugas in this bout. In the Philippine’s last 12 victories, Pacquiao has only ended one of those fights before the final bell and with Ugas having never suffered a knockout in his 30-fight career to date, the 42-year-old looks set to have to take the win in this one via the scorecards.
