THE LOWDOWN

Terri Harper became Great Britain’s only second ever major female world champion when she claimed the WBC super-featherweight title in only her tenth professional fight with a unanimous points victory over the long-time title-holder Eva Wahlstrom from Finland at the Sheffield Arena in February. Harper was hoping to face Jonas in front of a big home crowd in Yorkshire back in April only for the bout to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, that hasn’t dampened her motivation though and she is determined to showcase her talents to a big televised audience.

Natasha Jonas is 13 years older than Harper but has only had the same amount of professional bouts as the younger champion. The Liverpudlian has a 9-1 record and has recorded wins against Feriche Mashauri, Bec Connolly and Bianka Majlath since her sole defeat against Viviane Obenauf. Jonas is best known for her stellar amateur career which saw her claim five ABA Championships, and most notably at London 2012 she became the first ever British female boxer to compete at an Olympic Games.

THE PREDICTION

Terri Harper puts her WBC & IBO super-featherweight titles on the line against Natasha Jonas in a highly-anticipated bout which is the first ever all-British world title fight between two women. Harper has made light of her brief amateur career to make a rapid rise to the top in the professional ranks and her win against the very talented Eva Wahlström in February was no fluke. Jonas is very well-schooled and has an excellent amataur pedigree, but if you compare her progress as a professional, she has certainly not made as much of an impression as Harper has in the same number of bouts. It’s the young champion Harper who is tipped to hold onto her belts in a fight that looks capable of going the distance.

Prediction: Harper to win on points
