THE LOWDOWN

Shannon Courtenay (7-1) claimed the vacant WBA world female bantamweight title with victory over Ebanie Bridges in her latest fight and she will now look to defend her crown. The Brit has shown great improvements in her last two outings after going down to Rachel Ball in what remains the only loss of her career to date but she will need to produce even more here if she wants to retain her title against an unbeaten opponent.

Jamie Mitchell (6-0-2) is undefeated through eight bouts and while two of those have ended in draws, she will be confident of extending that run to help her to the first title of her career. Mitchell recorded the fourth KO victory of her short career so far last time out and she will look to utilise her power punching here but having faced some very low-quality opponents to date, she may find the step up in class too much to handle.

THE PREDICTION

Shannon Courtenay and Jamie Mitchell will finally do battle after the pair’s previously arranged fight was postponed because of Courtenay suffering an injury in the build-up. Courtenay is the reigning WBA world female bantamweight champion after securing the belt with a win in her last fight but this will not be a straightforward defence for her. Mitchell has the tools to cause her some problems with the unbeaten American arriving full of confidence after stopping her last opponent Noemi Bosques. However, this is a step up in class for Mitchell and Courtenay can do enough to retain her belt.
