Sergey Lipinets (16-1, 12 KOs) is back in the ring for the first time since July 2019 to face Clayton Custio for the interim IBF welterweight title. Lipinets was originally scheduled to face Kudratillo Abdukakhorov but some travel visa issues meant that the fight was cancelled Clayton stepped in at short notice. Former IBF light-welterweight title-holder Lipinets has won three fights in a row since his only professional defeat against Mikey Garcia in 2018 and he is hoping a good display here will put him in contention for some big fights in the welterweight division.
Clayton Custio (18-0, 12 KOs) may have taken this bout at short notice due to Kudratillo Abdukakhorov’s withdrawal but he will be well prepared for this opportunity and determined to succeed. The Canadian fighter has racked up 18 successive wins since he turned pro in 2014, this is his biggest test so far though and it’s the first time that he has fought outside of Canada in the pro ranks.
THE PREDICTION
Sergey Lipinets may be facing a replacement here, but make no mistake about it, this is a difficult challenge for the former IBF light-welterweight champion as Custio is a very accomplished boxer who is hungry to make the most of this chance. This has the potential to be a very enthralling contest and it looks set to go to the judges’ scorecards. Lipinets is tipped to get the decision but the main betting tip is for the fight to go the distance.
