THE LOWDOWN
Defending WBO light middleweight champion Patrick Teixeira (31-1, 22 KO) returns to the ring for the first time since November 2019 when he upset the odds to defeat Carlos Adames. Although he only captured the interim belt courtesy of that victory, he was subsequently promoted to full champion when Jaime Munguia vacated the belt. Teixeira has a decent KO ratio during his career but it is worth noting that each of his last five wins have come via the judges’ scorecards and the Brazilian fighter has not recorded a victory by stoppage since 2015.
Former WBA light middleweight champion Brian Castano (16-0-1, 12 KO) is also back in action for the first time since November 2019 when he defeated Wale Omotoso in five rounds. Castano brings an unbeaten record as a professional into this bout with 16 wins and a draw from his previous 17 bouts. The only contest which he has failed to win since turning pro was when he fought out a split-decision draw against Erislandy Lara in March 2019.
THE PREDICTION
Brazil’s Patrick Teixeira is defending his WBO light middleweight belt against Brian Castano from Argentina in what is an intriguing contest between two South American fighters. Teixeira may be the champion but he starts as the underdog against an opponent who has the skill-set to overcome the height and reach advantage that the title-holder has. Castano has the edge in terms of speed and ring craft, he is tipped to eventually wear down Teixeira. A win via KO/TKO for the challenger in rounds 9 to 12 is the predicted outcome.
