THE LOWDOWN
Luther Clay has been in impressive form with eight consecutive wins since losing the only bout of his professional career in August 2017. The South African born 24-year-old claimed the WBO Global welterweight title against Dario Morello in Florence last September and produced a good performance to retain the belt on points against Freddy Kiwitt in December 2019.
Chris Kongo has an unblemished record as a professional with 11 straight wins since making his pro debut four years ago. This is his biggest test by far though and one feels that he will have to use his height advantage to good effect if he is to come out on top against Clay.
THE PREDICTION
This is a very intriguing contest between two fighters who are trying to make their mark in the welterweight division and it’s quite possible this bout could go the distance with not much separating them on the scorecards. Clay has a little more experience in terms of the quality of opponent that he has fought, but Kongo has done all that has been asked of him and he looks capable of rising to the challenge. It’s pretty much a 50/50 contest and so backing the bout to go the distance might be the best betting option.
