Undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor 16-0 (6 KOs) is back in the ring to defend her belts against Miriam Gutierrez in London on Saturday night. The formidable Irish fighter was last in action in late-August when she successfully defended her world titles against Delfine Persoon in their eagerly-awaited rematch. That was Taylor’s 16th consecutive victory since she turned professional – eight of her last ten fights have been won via the judges’ scorecards.
Miriam Gutierrez 13–0 (5 KOs) brings an unbeaten record into this contest, it’s fair to say that this is a big step up in class for the Spaniard though. This will be the first time that she has fought outside of Spain in the professional ranks and it’s also her first bout since last November when she recorded a win on points against Lithuania’s Keren Batiz.
THE PREDICTION
Katie Taylor has successfully passed every challenge put in front of her since she turned professional in 2016 and expect no different from the Irish star here against Miriam Gutierrez. The Bray Bomber is tipped to use her superior experience and quality to good effect against a very spirited opponent and it’s hard to see anything other than a win for the champion. It might not necessarily be a quick-fire victory though as eight of Taylor’s last ten fights have gone the distance, so there could be some value in backing Taylor to win on points.
