THE LOWDOWN
Karim Guerfi (29-4, 9 KO) is in action for the first time since November 2019 when he claimed the European bantamweight title for the third time in his career courtesy of a victory against Georges Ory. That was the Frenchman’s third win in a row since he was defeated by Michael Dasmarinas in April 2018 while challenging for the IBO bantamweight title.
Lee McGregor’s (9-0, 7 KO) last taste of action was a fifth-round TKO victory over Ryan Walker in August 2020. The Scottish rising star already has the British and Commonwealth bantamweight belts in his possession and now he is looking to add the European title to his collection - in only his tenth professional contest.
THE PREDICTION
Lee McGregor has enjoyed a rapid rise since he turned professional in November 2017 and he certainly has his sights set on a world title fight in the not-too-distant future. If McGregor is to achieve those ambitions, he must first take care of business against three-time European bantamweight champion Karim Guerfi. The French fighter will be a tricky opponent for McGregor and it promises to be a fascinating encounter. The fact that McGregor is ten years younger than Guerfi might just be a factor in the second half of the fight and a stoppage win for the Scotsman in rounds 9-12 is the prediction.
