THE LOWDOWN

Junto Nakatani (21-0) comes into this bout having won the vacant WBO world flyweight title in his last fight at the end of 2020. He KO’d Giemel Magramo to extend his unbeaten start to his professional career, handing Magramo the first loss of his career in the process. The Japanese fighter has 16 KOs to his name now making it an impressive KO ratio of 76% and he has now stopped his last four opponents.

Angel Acosta (22-2) is a former world champion at light flyweight and flyweight and he will now attempt to regain the latter for the WBO title. He has won all but two of his 24 fights to date and he has ended all of his 22 victories early, other than when claiming a unanimous decision victory over Gilberto Mendoza in his last bout in March. This will be a step up in class from that bout against a dangerous opponent and he will need to improve on his effort last time out.

THE PREDICTION

Junto Nakatani and Angel Acosta both possesses tremendous power and this looks like a blockbuster contest for the WBO world flyweight title. Nakatani is the title holder but Ascosta is no stranger to it having claimed this title back in 2019 and he will be eager to earn possession of the belt once again. The pair are no strangers to failing to see out the distance and in a fight that could go either way, the pair’s power is likely to tell with the right unlikely to last the 12 rounds.
