THE LOWDOWN

Scotland’s Josh Taylor makes his return to the ring for the first time since last October on Saturday night to defend his WBA and IBF super-lightweight belts against mandatory challenger Apinun Khongsong. Now trained by Ben Davison, Taylor’s sights are set on a potential future bout against Jose Ramirez who holds the WBC and WBO belts so he will want to take care of business here with little fuss.

Apinun Khongsong has won all of his previous 16 contests – 13 by KO – in the professional ranks but this bout against Taylor represents a huge step up in class for the Thai fighter – who will also be fighting outside of Asia for the first time.

THE PREDICTION

Josh Taylor will be eager to make up for lost time as he returns to action against Apinun Khongsong with his two world championship belts on the line. The Tartan Tornado undoubtedly sees this as a stepping stone for a big showdown against Jose Ramirez and he is expected to have far too much experience and ability to slip up against the challenger. A KO/TKO victory for Taylor in rounds 4-6 is the predicted outcome.

Prediction: Taylor to win in rounds 4-6
