THE LOWDOWN

Social media sensation Jake Paul has taken care of business in his two previous ‘professional’ bouts, first he defeated fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib in the opening round of their contest in January 2020 and then he knocked out ex-NBA basketball player Nate Robinson in the second round of their fight which took place on the undercard of the Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr exhibition bout in November 2021.

Former UFC competitor Ben Askren is making his first foray into the boxing scene after a career in MMA which came to an end in late 2019 following back-to-back defeats against Jorge Masvidal and Demian Maia. Askren was a very proficient amateur wrestler and he represented his country at the 2008 Olympics, due to this background he was more well known for his grappling ability during his MMA career rather than as a knockout artist.

THE PREDICTION

This contest between YouTuber Jake Paul and former MMA fighter Ben Askren may not be a bout which catches the eye of boxing purists, but it will be watched by a huge viewing audience – mainly due to the fame of Paul. The match up does bring plenty of intrigue too, as Paul is up against a man who has plenty of experience in a professional combat sport. This is a tough fight to predict, but if you are looking for some value you might want to consider placing a wager on the underdog – which is Askren – there are enough valid reasons to believe that he is capable of claiming victory in what could be seen as a 50/50 fight.
