THE LOWDOWN

Hiroto Kyoguchi (14-0, 9 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time since October 2019 to make the third defence of his WBA (Super) light flyweight belt. He had been due to face Thanongsak Simsri in early November 2020; however, the contest was cancelled due to Kyoguchi and his trainer testing positive for COVID-19. The Japanese star has an unblemished record in the professional ranks with 14 wins from 14 bouts and he is already a two-weight world champion. This is Kyoguchi’s first bout in America and he is obviously keen to make a big impression.

Axel Aragon Vega 14-3-1 (8 KOs) is competing in his second world title bout having lost on points when he faced Wilfredo Mendez in October 2019 for the WBO minimumweight title. The Mexican fighter may have bounced back from that defeat with a win on points over Saul Juarez last August but this contest against Kyoguchi is a much tougher assignment.

THE PREDICTION

Hiroto Kyoguchi has already enjoyed great success in a short career which has only seen him fight on 14 occasions so far and he certainly seems destined to achieve a lot more in the coming years. The Japanese star has been out of action for over a year which is not ideal but he looks very well-prepared heading into this contest and it will be a surprise if he does not get the job done against Axel Aragon Vega who is stepping up a level for this title challenge.
