THE LOWDOWN

Dereck Chisora (32-10, 23 KO) was last in action in October 2020 when he suffered a unanimous points decision loss at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk. That defeat was the tenth of Del Boy’s career, with the veteran having lost against the likes of Tyson Fury (twice), Dillian Whyte (twice), Vitali Klitschko, Kubrat Pulev, and Oleksandr Usyk. The London-based fighter still has ambitions of becoming a world champion and he is hoping that a victory against Joseph Parker will put him on track for another world title shot.

Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (28-2, 21 KO) has won four fights in a row since he lost back-to-back bouts in 2018 against Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. It has to be said that the standard of opponent that the New Zealander has fought in those bouts has not been great though, and so this is certainly his biggest test since he lost the successive contests against the British pair. Parker’s last taste of competitive action was as recently as February when he outpointed fellow Kiwi Junior Fa in Auckland.

THE PREDICTION

Dereck Chisora and Joseph Parker finally go toe-to-toe in Manchester on Saturday night in what should be an intriguing contest between two heavyweights who are looking to stay in contention for a world title challenge. A genuine case can be made for either fighter of course, but one is just leaning towards Parker, as the Kiwi has age, height and reach all in his favour. If the former WBO champion can keep Chisora at range then he should be able to grind out a win via the judges’ scorecards.
