THE LOWDOWN

DAVID AVANESYAN

  • After suffering a TKO to Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Avanesyan has bounced back with three wins. Firstly, two TKO's over Kerman Lejarraga before now coming off another first round TKO over Jose Del Rio.
  • This will be Avanesyan's third defence of his European welterweight title after originally claiming it as a result of his first win over Lejarraga.
  • Avaensyan’s team have raised the temperature in the build up to this fight after Kelly pulled out of their original bout due to illness, questioning whether he would ‘turn up’ to this fight.

JOSH KELLY

  • Kelly's only blemish on his record is a draw with Ray Robinson but he replied with a unanimous decision win over Wiston Campos to continue his unbeaten run.
  • Kelly is a bronze medallist, having competed at the 2015 European games in Baku, and is also a WBA International and Commonwealth welterweight champion.
  • Kelly has a three and a half reach advantage and, combined with his unorthodox movement, he can frustrate the Russian from range.

THE PREDICTION

This is a big step up for Kelly but he has the tools to cause the upset. His best opportunity is to start quick and utilise his movement in order to reach and unsettle Avanesyan but he will struggle to keep that up for 12 rounds and the Russian has the experience to keep his composure early on to take the decision.

Winner: Avanesyan via Decision
