Antonio Russell (18-0) will put his unbeaten record on the line in what will be a big step up in class for the WBA interim world bantamweight title. The American has made a relatively easy start to his professional career with many bouts designed to get him the win but against his toughest opponent to date, he did a good job of overcoming Juan Carlos Payano and will be confident of another success here.
Emmanuel Rodriguez (19-2) is a former IBF world champion but he lost is crown against Naoya Inoue and then followed that up with the second defeat of his career with a defeat to Reymart Gaballo for the WBC interim world bantamweight title. With successive defeats to his name, the 29-year-old is at something of a crossroads in his career and he needs to prevail here to remain in the mix for world titles.
THE PREDICTION
Antonio Russell comes into this bout with Emmanuel Rodriguez with an unbeaten record to defend but more importantly, a world title to win. The interim bantamweight title is on the line and the American will fancy his fancy his chances against his Puerto Rican opponent who has lost his last two fights. Rodriguez will have to show vast improvements to put those defeats behind him and while this is a big step up in class for Russell, the 28-year-old looks capable of making the leap and can win his maiden world title.
