THE TEAM NEWS

HOUSTON ASTROS

  • The Astros are coming off a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays and after winning two of three games against the Canadian franchise they own a 3-2 mark in their last five games. They are also 8-2 in their last 10 outings, confirming their place as one of the top teams in the American League.
  • Yuli Gurriel is day-to-day with an elbow issue and should be considered as questionable ahead of this game, but Aaron Sanchez and Carlos Correa are not expected to return until next week at the earliest. George Springer has been playing well for the Astros of late, going 7-for-19 with two home runs and nine RBI in Houston’s last five games.
  • 2019 AL Cy Young candidate Gerrit Cole will take the mound for the Astros, and he is enjoying a stellar season after a 14-strikeout effort against the Tampa Bay Rays last week. The 28-year-old righty is 15-5 with a 2.85 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP and 252 strikeouts in 170.1 innings pitched across 27 starts.

MILWAUKEE BREWERS

  • The Brewers won two of three in their most recent series against the Chicago Cubs, and have gone 3-2 in their last five games. They are 6-4 in their last 10 games and remain alive in the race for one of the two Wild Card berths in the National League.
  • Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun will all be game-time decisions for this encounter, but Bobby Wahl and Brandon Woodruff remain unavailable. However, this team will remain on the right track as long as they have Christian Yelich, who crushed his 42nd homer on Sunday and is currently hitting for .328/.423/.670 this season.
  • Adrian Houser will make the start for the Brewers here, although that was close to not happening since his last outing was cut short due to a hip injury. The 26-year-old right-hander is 6-5 with a 3.52 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 87.0 innings working both as a starter and from the bullpen (29 appearances, 12 starts).

THE PREDICTION

Both teams come into this game with an equal run of form over their last five, so this will likely end up as a pitching matchup. With that the case, the Astros have a clear edge thanks to the presence of Gerrit Cole on the mound. That will be enough to make them favourites ahead of this contest.
