Augsburg will no doubt see this as the perfect chance to snap a three-match winless streak as they host bottom-of-the-table Bochum, the only Bundesliga club without a win this season.

Augsburg Preview: Home form still strong

Augsburg have tasted defeat just once on their home ground all season, once again demonstrating the importance of that advantage and the support they generate. After Bayern Munich ended that unbeaten run, the hosts now aim to start a new one.

It was a brave showing from Augsburg at the Allianz Arena. After holding the league leaders for over an hour, they were finally breached by Harry Kane, who then added two more late on to secure another hat-trick.

Bochum Preview: Rock bottom

It really can’t get much worse for Bochum right now as every week goes by and they become more and more entrenched in their position at the foot of the table. The visitors are now six points behind St. Pauli in 16th place and eight points adrift of Heidenheim in 15th.

Losing against Stuttgart last weekend was their ninth loss in 11 Bundesliga fixtures since the beginning of the campaign. Conceding a whopping 32 goals across those games is a key reason for their struggles.

Augsburg Team News: Lengthy list of absentees

Jess Thorup is set to be without a number of players for this match, most through injury, although defender Keven Schlotterbeck is suspended. Matsima should start at left-back in Giannoulis’ absence.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Labrovic; Bauer, Gouweleeuw, Matsima; Wolf, Onyeka, Jakic, Rexhbecaj, Pedersen; Claude-Maurice, Essende

Unavailable: Breithaupt (Injured), Giannoulis (Injured), Jensen (Injured), Oxford (Fitness), Schlotterbeck (Suspended)

Bochum Team News: Likely to match hosts with two-pronged frontline

Hofmann and Broschinkski should form a strike partnership as Bochum hunt for that illusive first league win. They’ll find to do it here without striker Myron Boadu, the Dutch loanee out with a hip problem.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Drewes; Oermann, Medic, Bernardo; Passlack, Sissoko, Losilla, Bero, Wittek; Hofmann, Broschinski

Unavailable: Boadu (Injured)

Augsburg vs Bochum Prediction

On their own patch, Augsburg can be afforded little excuses here. They simply need to win and should against a Bochum side who have been the worst team in the Bundesliga by a long way so far this season. Any outcome other than an Augsburg victory would be a surprise, although the hosts need to guard against complacency with Bochum having taken a point from Bayer Leverkusen only recently.
